| Short description: | The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the ecology, anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the honey bee. During the course, students learn the anatomy and physiology of the honey bee and the etiology, pathogenesis, treatment, and rules for the control of viral, bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases, with a particular emphasis on diseases, the reporting and treatment of which is obligatory. They also learn the basic principles of breeding, pathology and therapy of silkworm. |
| Full description: | The etiology, pathogenesis and therapy of diseases of bees, with particular reference to the diseases by the OIE. Rules of procedure for veterinary diseases notifiable combat and registration and poisonings of bees. Biology of bees, the basic principles of breeding, as well as how to handle the bees. Basic information on pests of bees and apiary products. Hygiene products apiary. Basic issues of breeding and pathology silkworm. |

| Learning outcomes: | Knowledge: - identify the etiologic agents of diseases of bees. - show the currently applicable legal provisions to combat bee diseases and supervision of origin of beekeeping products - describe the symptoms of the diseases of bees and honey houses signs of pest infestation - proposed and plans to perform medical treatments, sets out the principles of effective treatment Skills: - assesses the health of bee colonies on the basis of a clinical trial at the time of inspection of bee colonies in the apiary - independently performs basic diagnostic tests in the field of bee diseases - evaluate and analyze types of preventive and curative treatments used in bee colonies honey houses and farms - conducting an investigation veterinary protection of apiary and control of bee diseases Social competences: - has a responsibility for decisions related to the therapy of diseases of honey bees, and security of honey |
| Assessment methods and assessment criteria: | The rating obtained for the classes of 50% (knowledge test), the grade obtained for the classes in the apiary of 25% (attendance, work with bees), evaluation of credit of the lectures 25% (attendance). |
